Never been to TextSnippets before?

Snippets is a public source code repository. Easily build up your personal collection of code snippets, categorize them with tags / keywords, and share them with the world (or not, you can keep them private!)

Simple bash calculator (See related posts)

Put the following little snippet in your .bashrc/.bash_profile and you'll have a handy little calculator:

? () { echo "$*" | bc -l; }

Use like this:

bash$ ? 2*2
4

It should be easily modifiable for other shells/calculators.

nice trick.
One 'caveat' -- do not try to create the function in a directory containing a file with one-letter name... (like in 'ls ?')

You need to create an account or log in to post comments to this site.
