Javascript String Replace

just like php's str_replace

var visitorName = "Chuck";
var myOldString = "Hello username! I hope you enjoy your stay username.";
var myNewString = myOldString.replace("username", visitorName);

document.write("Old string =  " + myOldString);
document.write("<br />New string = " + myNewString);

Install ikiwiki in an arbitrary directory

ikiwiki doesn't install using PREFIX= like normal programs (it still wants to put stuff in /etc/ikiwiki).

perl Makefile.PL DESTDIR=/path/to/install/dir PREFIX="" INSTALL_BASE="/"

Fire Event With Listener

If you need to fire off an event but it is currently handled by an event listener.

more information here http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/tutorials/javascript/domevents

var fireOnThis = document.getElementById('someID');
if( document.createEvent ) {
  var evObj = document.createEvent('MouseEvents');
  evObj.initEvent( 'mousemove', true, false );
  fireOnThis.dispatchEvent(evObj);
} else if( document.createEventObject ) {
  fireOnThis.fireEvent('onmousemove');
}

Javascript Event Listeners

Add event listeners for all browsers at once.

Javascript Trim Functions

Examples of full trim, left trim, and right trim for javascript.

function trim(stringToTrim) {
	return stringToTrim.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,"");
}
function ltrim(stringToTrim) {
	return stringToTrim.replace(/^\s+/,"");
}
function rtrim(stringToTrim) {
	return stringToTrim.replace(/\s+$/,"");
}

// example of using trim, ltrim, and rtrim
var myString = " hello my name is ";
alert("*"+trim(myString)+"*");
alert("*"+ltrim(myString)+"*");
alert("*"+rtrim(myString)+"*");

Make a bitwise comparison in php.

if(($bit_comparison & $bit) == TRUE)
